BBC Proms 2018: Experience Anna Meredith’s sound and light show free

The 2018 BBC Proms season is – sort of – getting underway the day before the advertised date it seems.

Just in today, news that 5000 free tickets will be up for grabs from 9am on Friday 22nd June for a special pre-season sound and light projection at the Royal Albert Hall – a preview before the premiere if you like, which I suppose really means that Thursday 12 June is the work’s real premiere.

Let’s not split hairs. No one likes a pedant, after all.

Anna Meredith’s new work – Five TelegramsSender – is an audio-visual work that draws upon various forms of First World War communication as the BBC Proms commemorates the end of the ‘Great War’ in its centenary year. The work is a joint commission for the BBC Proms, Edinburgh International Festival and 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, in collaboration with the Royal Albert Hall.

The preview is on Thursday 12 July at 10 until 10.30pm outside the Royal Albert Hall. A film of the performance will be available on BBC iPlayer on Friday 13 July after the First Night of the Proms. Tickets are available from 9am on Friday 22nd June via bbc.co.uk/proms.
