Eurovision 2017: [Germany] Levina / Perfect Life

You know you’re in trouble when your verse is better than your chorus. That’s one of the problems Germany has got this year with their song.

The opening Police-esque riff establishes expectation of something spectacular, but the chorus never delivers on the promise. It’s melody is a little trite, and its conclusion too polished as to make the return of the verse a tantalising prospect.

Denied the additional exposure some of the songs will get by virtue of having to compete for a place in the grand final, Germany looks set for a mid-table position at best.
