Eurovision 2017: [Estonia] Koit Toome & Laura / Verona

A song full of surprises with a toe-tapping anthemic chorus. The switch between double to single time (ie verse to chorus) creates something rather uplifting, but come the middle eight the energy is lost. The steadfast refusal to build on that upbeat chorus in the final minutes of the song leaves me feeling dissatisfied with it.

The sequined velvet jacket and the long white dress seen in the rehearsal footage projects this song into a non-descript space stylistically which might mean it ends up getting overlooked in the semi-final. The staging is unambitious, meaning the song’s flaws are easier to identify.
