#Classical365: 18 – Gershwin’s Cuban Overture

I needed something quick, up-tempo and jolly to offset the disappointment I concocted, and then subsequently binned, in the kitchen earlier this evening. George Gershwin’s Cuban Overture came to the rescue.

Fizzing with energy, excitement spills over in this concert opener that features, as one would expect, endless percussion instruments and a cracking brass line that soars triumphantly over the orchestra in the final section of the 10 minute piece.

I watched the Teresa Carreño Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela under the direction of Joshua dos Santos play Gershwin’s Cuban Overture on YouTube. I’d also recommend this recording on Spotify
