The Last Christmas premieres at Birmingham Royal Conservatoire

Final rehearsals are underway this week for a new musical premiering at Birmingham Royal Conservatoire on Sunday 10 December.

‘The Last Christmas’ is written by Valerie Hall and her step-grandson Joel Hall, a former Conservatoire postgraduate. The show tells the story of Chris – a Christmas tree in search of fun and excitement and his two new best friends, foxes called Rusty and Amber. Plans are hatched to find the christmas tree what he’s searching for.

The production features more than 20 Birmingham City University students among its cast and crew, include those training to be actors and musicians at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and scholars from Birmingham School of Art.

The music sounds enticing and there’s some vocal talent in the behind-the-scenes video (see above) which is definitely worth paying close attention to as well. I’m sorry I can’t get to Birmingham to see it, but I have a hunch the show will reappear somewhere else soon, so too the work of musical theatre composer Joel Hall.
