Last year’s Classic Brit Awards are – bizarrely – memorable for me not because of the nominees or winners, but for Paul Morley’s damning feature for Sinfini Music, lambasting the live event and the genre it represented. I was clearly riled by Morley’s polemic.
This year’s nominations were announced last week on the Classic FM website. Notable nominees include:
Alison Balsom, Joyce DiDonato and Nicola Benedetti all nominated for Female Artist of the Year and Daniel Barenboim for Male Artist of the Year.
Joseph Calleja and Tine Thing Helseth are up for Breakthrough Artist. Arvo Part and Hans Zimmer will slug it out for the Composer award. Nice to see the John Wilson Orchestra up for the Critics’ award too.
