Eurovision 2012: Lithuania / Donny Montell / Love Is Blind

Donny Montell (left) is 24 years old, fuelled by a passion for music (according to the Eurovision.tv website) and not like you might be thinking in any way chilly, even though he’s sporting a fantastic looking pully in this picture.

Nor is he blind. He just sings a song about love being blind. Wearing a blindfold (in this preview video, at least).

He doesn’t wear the blindfold throughout the song, but throws it across the stage in a suitably dramatic fashion just before the disco beat kicks in.

The slow section flicks all the right switches even if it feels like the chord progressions have been heard before, and despite taking a surprising 2 minutes before the up-tempo section swings into action, the song doesn’t actually suffer because of it.

Two-thirds slow, one-third up-tempo, it is suprisingly well-balanced and will clearly have a life in the Eurovision bars and clubs and – with any luck – beyond, too.

Donny is also quite a mover, as this video clearly shows.

Well done Lithuania. Nice work.

Lithuania has never won the Eurovision. Best result: 6th with the hopeful if musically and lyrically disappointing We are the Winners (2006).

Lithuania appears last in the running order in this year’s second semi-final on Thursday 24 May 2012.
